How can I control which template is used when someone clicks a link in the minicalendar?

I have the Events Calendar module displaying on the home page, but I don't want the home page template used to display the event information.

Shouldn't the Events Calendar module use the default Joomla template to display event information?

You should have a published menu entry pointing to the calendar component. Then the link of the mini calendar uses the Itemid of the menu and the associated template to display the event.

Yes, I can see how a menu item would be a work around. But we want to display the minicalendar on the home page, but not use the home template to display the event information.

You know you can specify a template for specific menu items don't you?

Yes, I know how to apply a template to a menu item.

The issue here is, when the minicalendar and latest events list appears on the home page, none of those links displayed are menu items. Jevents uses the same template, in my case the template applied to the home, to display the event information instead of the default template I have applied to the site.

I would like to know how to control the template used when someone clicks the links in minicalendar or latest events.

Each link of the latest events module or mini calendar contains a Itemid. This Itemid points to a menu entry with a assigned template. If the Itemid is not in the link, your configuration is weak.

The menu Itemid for the home page is 1

The minicalendar appears on the home page, so the links in the minicalendar have an Itemid of 1 and use the same template as the home.

I want the links in the minicalendar to use a different Itemid so they display on a different template.

As already posted, create a menu entry pointing to the component. Then the itemid in the mini calendar links are automatically changed to that itemid.
