Resolved Hide "show by categories" not working?

I would like to provide "see by categories" functionality. In Configuration, Hide "see by categories" has no effect, whether toggled to yes or no. Joomla 1.0.11, jevents 1.4.3RC1.

I can get the category layout if I use ....../index.php?option=com_events&task=view_cat.
However, I would like to provide an icon for that purpose on the calendar homepage along with the other view options. I assume that is what Hide "see by categories.." is meant to provide. Please advise.

This option relates to the old text based top navigation - if you enable this then view by category becomes available

I assume you mean that an icon appears on the top navigation area (where "see by day","week","month" etc.. appear), when the option is enabled. I have seen some sites (like your 1.5 demo site with the ext theme applied) where an icon appears on the top nav area (the icon is a folder w/ the text "see by categories";).
My problem is that I cannot get that icon ("see by categories";) to appear in the top nav area, whether or not the option in config is set to "hide" or "show". The config setting seems to have no effect on the presence/absence of the nav icon.
