Resolved Addition of backend event importing feature

Doesn't it seem a bit ridiculous to anyone else that there is no feature in JEvents to import events from an iCal or CSV file from the back end? I request that this feature be implemented! :) I have a client who uses JEvents and we have no front end login access and edits only from the backend and it sucks to have to ask them to do some additional learning just to go around this. :neutral:
Removing "Hits" from list by category

You can import events in iCal format or CSV format in the backend - you do this by creating a calendar and choosing the type of import you want (either from a file or URL).

Hi Geraint, I have chosen from file, but still i am perplexed as to what process i must use to start the import. My .csv file is standing by

Create a new calendar in JEvents and select type 'from file' or 'from URL' and then upload your file directly or via a website to import it.

Thanks Geraint, did that and the events come in nicely. now I need to migrate them from the "newly created" calendar to my regular calendar. Is there an easy way to do that ?

Ah - there is a better way to do that.

In your JEvents config (Ical Import/Export tab) set "Allow Frontend Import of Events" to yes

Then login to the frontend as an event creator and you can then import a CSV file into an existing calendar.

Hi Geraint,

Finally got round to testing this.

frontend import asks for a category, yet the .csv with the events in already defines the category so not sure what I should do since I dont want to define one single category when the import file contains many events with different categories.

Hi Andy,

When importing it asks for a category as this is the fallback category if one is not set in the file.

Thanks Tony for the quick response. that makes sense.

Just a thought for future releases, maybe the import dialogue could be a little more verbose ? (fallback category instead of just category)
