I'm new to Joomla (started 3 days ago).

I'm using Joomla 1.5.2 (with Joomla! 1.0 compatibility mode on) in french on XAMPP 1.6.6a
- Apache 2.2.8
- MySql 5.0.51a
- PHP 5.2.5 and 4.4.8 (??)

Every accented letters are replaced by a question mark (?).
Anybody had that problem?
Authors cannot save from the frontend
Can't edit events after upgrading Joomla 1.5.1 to ...

Check the encoding of the site.
